Why Is My Heat Pump Running But Not Cooling Properly?

A heat pump that runs but doesn’t cool usually has restricted airflow or a control/charge problem. Dirty air filters reduce airflow. Dirty indoor or outdoor coils reduce heat transfer. Low refrigerant from a leak cuts cooling. Thermostat or electrical faults disrupt operation. Duct leaks waste cooled air. Frozen coils can also stop cooling. Our NATE-certified technicians service all major brands across Fort Wayne and nearby areas.

Quick checks:

  • Replace a dirty air filter.
  • Set thermostat to Cool and lower the setpoint.
  • Clear debris 2–3 ft around the outdoor unit.
  • Open supply and return vents.
